ARDECHE

Well the journey took us one hour longer due to deviations.  That’s French for – we are kinda working on the road so go around.  It was a pretty drive but going across France is never easy because it’s not joined by main motorways or the Auto route as they call it here, so it’s a case of dog legging your way through little towns and villages.

Where not to live

We discovered parts of France we definitely would never live in and some surprises like Grenoble.  A student town, very nice with lots of parks and gardens, massive bridges and rivers, really nice and surprisingly modern.  When we finally entered the Ardeche it was like a deja vu.  We used to have paintings on the walls of Bon Appetit before we went all grey and modern of villages depicting buildings with red roves and lots of hidden passage ways.  I’ve discovered this is the Ardeche.  Just lovely and can’t wait to discover more in the morning.

The holiday village we are staying in is called the Pierre en Vacances and is comprised of a typical Ardeche village.  One thing that completely surprised me is that we had to make the  beds.  Well our apartment consists of a little room with two single beds for the boys and a lounge with a sleeper couch for us so that we make up anyway.  But it was spotlessly clean, neat, small but comfortable.  Kids are excited so that’s the most important isn’t it.
