A MONTH FLIES BY

My parents were here for a month and have left already, I cannot believe how time flies.  We had a good time I think.  We've all aged, O I hear you all laughing, but it's true, I noticed things in my folks and they noticed things in me. I'm too scared to mention the things I noticed in them but my mom was quick to point out a few things - like I am fiercely independent and I think that comes with age, you always want to prove you are in charge, can do it, no matter what.  Truth is I am exhausted but I enjoyed having them here and they have left a big gaping hole.  Mom and Dad I love you.

Last night, Grandpa and Ben on the balcony.  We had terrible weather when they were here so crammed in as much as possible when it wasn't raining.  On the last night Mom treated us to prawns which I cooked in garlic, sweet paprika (my latest find), bell pepper, garlic (of course this is France after all) and cream.  They were delicious even if I say so myself, but what was even more splendid was dessert.  I made a crumble with the raspberries the children picked (and have the nettle stings to prove it) and it was fantastic.  I don't like crumble because I always feel it tastes metallic as the flour doesn't cook properly but this was Bill Granger's recipe and it worked.

Manu this pic is for you because I know just how you love him.  When ever I mention him Manu gives me this stupid grin, yes the same one as above.  But he cooks well.

Use any fruit, but cook it first, if using berries don't cook them just add, then for the crumble, Rub 100g cold butter into 100g brown sugar, 150g plain flour, 5ml baking powder and 50g of oats (breakfast oats are fine).  Don't leave out the oats that's what makes the difference.  Bake on 200C for 40 minutes.  Enjoy.

This weekend is the Medieval Fete in Praz where everyone will dress up and lots of games are planned for the kids.  Hope I can find a stall selling mead where I can park off and watch the kids from a distance.  They had a little taste of what was to come on Wednesday at Sammy's school.

Selling mediaval things

Samuel being serious at archery

......and then of course there's Ben - Heather's Victoria.  And no he didn't hit anything, well apart from the roof.

So to Mom and Dad have a lovely time Scotland, if you want to come back the doors open and there is still plenty in the fridge.
